When Is Hydro Jetting the Right Choice?
Traditional drain cleaning can handle many common clogs, but some lines develop heavier buildup that is difficult to remove with a basic cable or auger. Hydro jetting uses pressurized water to clean the inside of drain and sewer piping more thoroughly when the condition of the line and the type of blockage make jetting appropriate.
The jetting equipment sends controlled streams of water through the pipe to break apart and move grease, sludge, organic buildup, and other material toward the downstream portion of the drainage system. For recurring or difficult stoppages, this can provide a more complete cleaning than simply opening a small pathway through the clog.
Hydro jetting is not automatically the right answer for every slow or clogged drain. The location of the blockage, pipe material, age, condition, and suspected cause all matter. When necessary, a video inspection can help our plumbers evaluate the line before recommending how it should be cleaned.
For properties that repeatedly develop grease, sludge, or other heavy buildup, periodic professional cleaning may also be useful as part of a broader drain-maintenance plan. The appropriate frequency depends on how the plumbing system is used and what is accumulating inside the line.
Is Hydro Jetting Worth It?
The value of hydro jetting depends on the problem you are trying to solve. When a line has substantial buildup or keeps clogging after ordinary cleaning, addressing more of the material inside the pipe may reduce the need to repeatedly clear the same restriction.
However, pressurized water should only be used when the piping is in suitable condition. A badly deteriorated, broken, or compromised line may need repair rather than aggressive cleaning. That is one reason proper diagnosis matters before jetting begins.
Hydro jetting is professional equipment, not a typical DIY drain-cleaning method. Different pipe sizes, materials, and conditions require different techniques and water pressure, and using the wrong approach can create additional plumbing problems.
Scooter Plumbing's licensed technicians evaluate the situation and select a cleaning approach appropriate for the line being serviced. Our team continues training to stay current with plumbing technology, regulations, and industry best practices.
Benefits of Professional Hydro Jetting
When the piping is suitable and the blockage calls for it, hydro jetting can provide several advantages:
Removing grease and heavy buildup. Pressurized water can help break apart layers of grease, sludge, soap residue, and organic material that have accumulated along the inside of the pipe.
Clearing stubborn debris and some root intrusion. Depending on the condition of the line and the severity of the intrusion, jetting can help remove debris and certain root growth from sewer piping. If roots entered through a damaged pipe, the underlying defect may still require repair.
Cleaning more of the pipe interior. Unlike a method that simply opens a path through a blockage, hydro jetting can wash buildup from a larger portion of the pipe wall, helping restore a cleaner pathway for wastewater to move through the system.
